Chennai: The BJP-led NDA could assume a new nomenclature as 'New Delhi Alliance' since there was an attempt to rule Tamil Nadu from the national capital and the AIADMK, too, was part of that alliance operated by the BJP from New Delhi, DMK deputy general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP Trichi Siva said. Speaking to media persons at the DMK headquarters on Wednesday, Siva said that convening the Parliament during election time was a cheap trick and blamed the AIADMK for supporting the Bills brought in Parliament by the BJP Union Government, which had been persistently betraying and spiting Tamil Nadu. Ever since it assumed power at the Centre, the BJP had been passing legislations that went against the rights of the States and was keen on imposing Hindi through the New Education Policy that would take the education system backwards and be of no help to the students, he said, adding that to counter that move Tamil Nadu had brought in a State Education Policy. Enacting a law required the Bill to be passed by Parliament and State legislatures but for adopting a policy there was no need to follow such procedures, which had ensured that the education policy did not be tabled in Parliament, he said. Yet, the DMK was fighting the National Education Policy besides formulating an alternative State policy, he said. Since the beginning of its tenure, the BJP government had been consistently betraying Tamil Nadu, he said and referred to the recent controversy over Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis telling the people of Madurai to vote for the BJP if they wanted Metro Rail. The reason cited by the Union Government for not approving Metrorail project for Madurai and Coimbatore was that the two cities did not have mandatory 20 lakh population to qualify for its implementation though several cities in north India with lesser populations like Nagpur, Gurugram and so on had been accorded permission for implementing Metrorail projects, he said. Siva also compared the progress of work on the construction of AIIMS in Madurai, where only 30 percent work had been completed in the past several years after the hospital project was announced in 2015 while the hospitals announced for Jammu and Kashmir, Guwahati and Korakpur had started functioning. Tamil Nadu was competing with not just the other States of the country in implementing development projects but also with the Union Government, he said and cited a report of the NITI Aayog that found the States of Tamil Nadu and Kerala on top in industrialization, people welfare schemes, women's safety and education to prove his point. The allocation for rural development by Tamil Nadu was 11.2 percent of its revenue as against the Union Government's 3.28 percent and it was the same case with all departments like Agriculture (18.5 % against Centre's 2.63%) and (education 22.3% against New Delhi's 2.6%).
