Kanpur: Thousands of devotees on Thursday took holy dip in river Ganga and donated cloths, grains among needy persons on the auspicious occasion of Ganga Dussehra. The devotees started thronging ghats since early morning hours for the holy dip. They performed religious rituals and offered flowers and other devotional articles to the Ganga on the occasion. Ganga Dussehra is regarded as one of the most significant festivals devoted to the Goddess Ganga as it is believed that Ganga descended on the earth on this day.All the major ghats including Atal Ghat, Parmat Ghat, Sarsaiya Ghat, Massacre ghat, Gola Ghat and Siddhanath ghat remained crowded throughout the day. The district administration made elaborate arrangements at all the ghats for the safety. Barricading were installed at all the ghats and announcements to warn the devotees against crossing the barriers were made at regular intervals. Traffic restrictions remained effective in the city to manage the rush of devotees coming from the adjoining districts.
