Bengaluru, Apr 8 (UNI) India's human spaceflight ambitions are entering a decisive phase, with the focus shifting from announcements to execution as the Gaganyaan programme advances through critical testing milestones. At the centre of this transition is ISRO Chief V Narayanan, who has underlined that the true complexity of human spaceflight lies not merely in launching a rocket but in managing an extended chain of mission operations that begin well before liftoff and continue long after. His remarks highlight the heightened requirements of human missions, which demand greater safety standards, redundancy, and deeper systems integration compared to unmanned missions. The Gaganyaan roadmap follows a cautious, step-by-step approach. Before any astronaut is sent into orbit, the programme will undertake a series of uncrewed missions to validate all critical subsystems. These include human-rating of the launch vehicle, development of crew escape systems, environmental control and life support systems, and the seamless integration of hardware, software, and human interfaces.
