Vijayawada, April 7 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister K Pawan Kalyan emphasized the need of conservation of water and asserted that the Jal Jeevan mission programme was launched to provide drinking water to every household. Pawan Kalyan participated in the one day workshop on Sources sustainability & Ground Water Sources in the Rural Water Supply here on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, the deputy Chief Minister said that the State Government has undertaken a programme called "100 Days Water Consumption Drive" from April 6th to July 14th to create awareness among the people and take steps like increasing groundwater, preventing water wastage, using water carefully, and harvesting rainwater. Stating that where there is water, there is good development, he said that the rivers like Godavari, Krishna, Penna and Vamsadhara are the lifeline for the improvement of the living conditions of the people of Andhra Pradesh. "The reason why we are at the forefront of the country as an agriculture-based state is because of our abundant water resources. The big challenge of conserving such water is now before us. There is a need to carefully conserve surface water and conserve the gradually decreasing groundwater," Pawan Kalyan observed. The deputy Chief Minister pointed out that there are many obstacles at the field level to the goal of providing sufficient drinking water to every household. Especially in rural areas, the lack of sufficient surface water availability and depletion of groundwater are key problems, he highlighted. Pawan Kalyan regretted that even the available water is increasingly polluted and the government is planning to renovate watersheds to solve the water problem in the villages at the top of the mountains in the agency areas during the summer. "We are preparing a mechanism to address water shortages and undertake water conservation measures by utilizing changing technology from time to time. Public participation is especially needed in water conservation measures," the deputy Chief Minister acknowledged.
