Imphal: At least three people were killed and several others injured after CRPF personnel allegedly opened fire during a protest at Tronglaobi in Manipur's Bishnupur district on Monday, sources said. The incident took place at Tronglaobi Maning in the Gelmon area, where a large crowd had gathered outside a CRPF camp following the recent attack in which two minor siblings were killed and their mother critically injured. According to eyewitnesses, protesters accused security forces of failing to prevent the attack and alleged that armed groups were being allowed to operate from nearby areas. Tension escalated when sections of the crowd reportedly attempted to force their way into the camp, leading to clashes. Eyewitnesses also claimed that some barracks and vehicles inside the camp were damaged during the unrest. As the confrontation intensified, CRPF personnel opened fire to disperse the crowd, resulting in casualties, sources said. At least three people were reported killed on the spot, while several others sustained injuries. The wounded were shifted to nearby hospitals in ambulances and private vehicles, with some of the critically injured later referred to Imphal for advanced treatment. Officials were yet to confirm the exact number of casualties at the time of filing this report.
