Lucknow/Jhansi: A routine task to install a smart electricity meter in Jhansi's Punjabi Colony turned chaotic on Wednesday afternoon, when a viral video captured Sapna Tomar, a lawyer and granddaughter of soldier-turned-rebel Paan Singh Tomar, allegedly slapping and thrashing junior engineer Vaibhav Kumar Rawat of Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (DVVNL).The incident has led to legal action against Sapna and a counter-complaint against the engineer.Altercation unfolded in the Babina police jurisdiction of Jhansi district, where Vaibhav and his team arrived to replace an old electricity meter at the house of Sharda Tomar, Sapna's mother.Based on Vaibhav's written complaint, Babina police booked Sapna under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 121(1) (causing hurt to a public servant on duty), 132 (assault to deter a public servant), 115(2) (causing hurt), 352 (provoking breach of peace), and 324(4) (mischief causing damage between ₹20,000 and ₹1,00,000). Sapna, in turn, submitted a complaint against Vaibhav, alleging misconduct, though no FIR has been filed against him yet.Speaking to TOI, Vaibhav said, "Despite serving notice to replace the old meter with a smart one, Sapna and her family obstructed us.""After we installed the smart meter, she refused to return the old one, hiding it inside their house. I recorded the process, which enraged her. She attacked me and tried to snatch my phone," the JE said.The video, widely shared on platforms like X, shows Sapna slapping Vaibhav many times.Sapna, a lawyer practising in Gwalior court, however, refuted Vaibhav's claims. "He touched me inappropriately and twisted my wrist," she told TOI from a Gwalior hospital, where she claimed to be receiving treatment for a wrist injury."I'm getting a plaster and have complained to Babina police, but they haven't registered an FIR." She added that her family, equipped with a rooftop solar system, was expecting the solar installer to replace their meter. "Vaibhav's team swapped it without informing us or ringing the bell," she said.Paan Singh Tomar, a former Indian Army soldier and seven-time national steeplechase champion, turned dacoit in the Chambal ravines.
