New Delhi, Apr 6 (UNI) The Delhi government on Monday conducted the computerized draw of lots for entry-level admissions (Nursery, KG and Class 1) under the EWS, DG and CWSN categories in private unaided recognised schools for the 2026-27 academic session. The exercise was carried out by the Directorate of Education at the Old Secretariat in the presence of parents and other stakeholders, with officials stating that the process was designed to ensure transparency. Education Minister Ashish Sood, who was present during the draw, said measures such as Aadhaar-based verification and NIC-supported software were used this year to reduce duplicate and invalid applications. According to official figures, the number of participating schools has increased to 2,308 from 2,219 last year. Seats under the EWS/DG (Economically Weaker Section/Disadvantaged Group) category have risen to 48,092 from 44,045, while Children With Special Needs (CWSN) seats have gone up to 7,609 from 6,471. The total number of seats now stands at 55,701. A total of 1,39,524 applications were received this year. Of these, 1,38,536 applications under the EWS/DG category were found to be complete, while 988 complete applications were recorded under the CWSN category. Officials said school allotments were declared immediately after the draw. The next stage of the admission process, including document verification, is expected to begin within the next few days. Authorities added that parts of the verification process have been digitised to reduce the need for repeated visits by parents. Referring to previous data, Sood said that in 2024-25 over 2.4 lakh applications were received, with a large number identified as duplicate entries. He also noted a decline in applications this year, linking it to increased enrolment in government schools. The government said the process is aimed at ensuring fair access to education for eligible students while maintaining transparency in admissions.
