Kupwara, Apr 05: A youth from Sogam in the Lolab area of Kupwara died in Saudi Arabia following a cardiac arrest, with his family seeking urgent government assistance to bring his body home. Bilal Manzoor Ganie, who had been working as a nursing assistant at a hospital in Saudi Arabia for the past one and a half years, passed away on April 4. Family members said he had no known serious illness, and his sudden death has left relatives in shock. Bilal was the son of a former vice principal of Army Goodwill School, Chandigam, where he had completed his schooling in 2015 before leaving for employment abroad. The family has appealed to the Jammu and Kashmir administration to facilitate the formalities required for repatriation so that his last rites can be performed in his native village. Efforts have intensified to ensure the early return of the youth's mortal remains. The All-India Medical Students Association and the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association have written to External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, seeking immediate intervention. Dr Mohammad Momin Khan, Vice President of the medical students' body, urged the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia to expedite the process on humanitarian grounds, stating that timely action would provide relief to the bereaved family. Jammu and Kashmir Students Association National Convenor Nasir Khuehami also expressed grief and said the association is in touch with the authorities and ready to assist the family to ensure smooth repatriation. BJP media incharge for Kashmir Sajid Yousuf Shah also urged the Indian Embassy to facilitate the return of the body at the earliest. Locals in Lolab described Bilal as a hardworking youth, and his sudden death has cast a pall of gloom over the area. The family in the meantime said the process of repatriation involves multiple clearances and documentation and appealed for swift intervention to enable timely last rites.
