Manipur CM makes 1st visit to Jiribam by road after nearly 3 years of conflict

Imphal: CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Saturday led a delegation of MLAs and political leaders to Jiribam district by road along the National Highway-37, marking the first such visit after nearly three years of conflict disrupted movement of people across the state.Khemchand had travelled using a chopper during his last visit to the district in Feb this year. Elaborate security arrangements were in place ahead of his visit along the highway.During his second visit to the district after becoming the CM, Khemchand interacted with internally displaced persons (IDPs) and people from different communities, signalling a renewed push to rebuild trust among conflict-affected communities.Khemchand, while addressing a community interaction event at New Alipur Rongmei Naga village in the district on Saturday, said Jiribam has created a history by becoming the first district in Manipur where all communities sit together in the restoration of peace after three years of unrest. "People of Jiribam are the most broad minded in the state," he said.During the programme, Khemchand interacted with the IDPs belonging to Meitei, Kuki, Paite and Hmar tribes.The CM went on to say his govt is putting in its best efforts to help the IDPs in every possible way. "I may not fulfil all your wishes, but I will continue to help you all in whatever way I can. Everyone always wanted to return home and our govt is making every effort to help the IDPs in the construction of new houses," he said.He also visited Jiribam District Hospital at Ningshingkhul and inspected the facilities available in the hospital.Khemchand travelled to the Jiribam district, bordering south Assam, covering over 220km in six hours.
