Chennai: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Saturday launched a sharp attack on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin over the ongoing row surrounding the three-language policy under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, accusing him of misrepresenting the reform for political gains. In a strongly worded statement, Pradhan rejected Stalin's claims of "Hindi imposition", describing them as a "tired narrative" aimed at masking governance failures. He asserted that the NEP promotes linguistic freedom rather than coercion, emphasising that the policy prioritises education in the mother tongue to ensure better learning outcomes for students. "The portrayal of NEP as a compulsory Hindi policy is misleading," Pradhan said, adding that multilingualism should be viewed as an asset rather than a threat. He argued that Tamil language and culture would be strengthened, not weakened, if students were equipped with multiple linguistic skills in an increasingly globalised world.
