Patna: At least four people died, and several others developed health complications including blurred vision after allegedly consuming spurious liquor under Turkauliya and Raghunathpur areas in East Champaran district. Police said that at least six people were undergoing treatment while seven others were discharged after preliminary treatment. The incident of hooch tragedy took place last Thursday. East Champaran's superintendent of police (SP) Swarn Prabhat suspended the station house officer of Turkaulia police station with immediate effect. Special police teams are conducting intensive raids across the entire region. The administration has appealed to local residents to come forward for treatment if they are feeling unwell without any fear. The deceased have been identified as Parikshan Manjhi, Hiralal Bhagat, Pramod Yadav, and Chandu Kumar. Sadar DSP Dilip Kumar stated prima facie it appeared to be a case of people losing their lives after consuming spurious liquor. Acting swiftly, police arrested the prime accused, Naga Rai, involved in the sale of the spurious liquor. So far, a total of 12 individuals including a village chowkidar have been arrested. A murder case has been registered based on a complaint filed by family members of the deceased.
