Lucknow, Apr 3 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has successfully busted a terror module allegedly operating under the direction of Pakistani handlers and planning attacks on key installations in the state. The arrests prevented a major sabotage attempt near Lucknow railway station, officials said on Friday. According to ATS sources, intelligence inputs revealed that an India-based group was in continuous contact with Pakistan-based operatives through social media platforms such as Telegram, Signal, and Instagram. The group was reportedly involved in anti-national activities, including reconnaissance of sensitive institutions and political figures, with the intent to pass on critical information to handlers across the border. The main accused has been identified as Sakib alias "Devil," a 25-year-old resident of Agwanpur village in Meerut district, who works as a barber. Investigations found that he was connected to Pakistani handlers and radical groups, as well as several foreign numbers, including contacts from Afghanistan. The group's alleged plans included damaging railway signal systems, setting fire to trucks carrying gas cylinders, and conducting surveillance of high-profile targets. Their objective was to create panic and inflict economic damage. Authorities also revealed that the accused had carried out minor arson incidents in the past and shared videos with their handlers in exchange for money received through QR codes. Other accused suspects include Arbab (20), also from Agwanpur; Vikas Gehlawat alias Raunak (27) from Gautam Buddh Nagar; and Lokesh alias Papla Pandit (19), also from Gautam Buddh Nagar. These individuals were reportedly recruited via social media and lured by financial incentives to conduct reconnaissance of important sites in cities such as Ghaziabad, Aligarh, and Lucknow. Officials stated that Pakistani handlers provided Google map locations of targets and encouraged attacks using coded messaging, often invoking extremist ideologies and figures to radicalize recruits. On April 2, 2026, the group allegedly planned to carry out an arson or explosion targeting railway infrastructure near Lucknow station. Acting swiftly, the ATS team apprehended all four suspects before the plan could be executed. A case has been registered at ATS Police Station, Lucknow, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (2023) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. The accused have been produced before a court, and further legal proceedings are underway. During interrogation, the suspects reportedly admitted to sharing sensitive information about strategic locations and political figures with individuals linked to Pakistan's intelligence network. Authorities believe the group aimed to spread terror and destabilize public order through coordinated acts of sabotage.
