Srinagar, Apr 3 (PTI) People's Conference chief Sajad Lone on Friday welcomed the magisterial probe into the Ganderbal encounter, and expressed hope that a transparent inquiry will be conducted into the incident and justice will prevail. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday ordered a magisterial probe into the encounter in Ganderbal district in which one alleged terrorist was killed by security forces. "The ordering of a Magisterial enquiry by @OfficeOfLGJandK into the allegations made by the family of the person who was killed in an encounter in Ganderbal, is a welcome step. We hope that a transparent enquiry is conducted and justice prevails," the MLA from Handwara said in a post on X. The Army claimed a local terrorist was killed in the encounter that took place in the Arahama area on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. In a post on X, Sinha said, "I have ordered a thorough and impartial magisterial inquiry into the Arhama, Ganderbal incident. The inquiry will examine all aspects related to the incident and ensure that justice is served". The family of the slain man, Rashid Ahmad Mughal, had claimed that the deceased had no links to terrorism. People's Democratic Party leader Iltija Mufti, while appreciating the L-G's "swift response", said a thorough investigation would fix accountability and restore people's confidence.
