Thane East Gets First Public Pickleball Court Boosting Local Sports Culture Growth

Thane: In a significant move to bolster the rapidly growing popularity of Pickleball, a state-of-the-art court was inaugurated in Thane East. The facility was officially opened by MLA Sanjay Kelkar and Memeber of Legislative Council Niranjan Davkhare. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the People's Education Society and the Dronacharya Sports Academy. While Thane previously hosted several private courts, this facility is being hailed as the first major venue designed to be easily accessible to the general public. Spearheaded by the Thane Pickleball Association, the project aims to provide high-quality infrastructure to local athletes. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Vidyadhar Vaishampayan and Alhad Joshi of the People's Education Society, alongside Manohar Dumbare and Sachin More of the Thane Pickleball Association. Dignitaries expressed confidence that this facility would inspire more youngsters to pursue Pickleball professionally. Contractor shut Apla Dawakhana clinics in Thane abruptly, staff unpaid since April, says TMC

Thane, Oct 27 (PTI) The civic body in Maharashtra's Thane on Monday said that the contractor responsible for operating the 'Apla Dawakhana' clinics had "closed shop abruptly", and had not paid wages for the staff since April. The Thane Municipal Corporation's clarification has come after local BJP MLA Sanjay Kelkar last week demanded that the civic authorities take action against the contractor for shutting down clinics and not paying wages to the employees.
