The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in various parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka and West Bengal. Cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata on Wednesday witnessed heavy rains, thunderstorms and gusty winds, according to a report by Mint. Bengaluru weather The current heavy spell of rain is expected to continue in Karnataka, with an orange alert issued for parts of south interior Karnataka, which includes Bengaluru, and coastal Karnataka till May 27, except for May 22, for which a yellow alert was issued, The Indian Express reported. According to the IMD, widespread moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds reaching up to 40-50 kmph, is likely during this period. The Bengaluru Regional Meteorological Centre has specifically warned of heavy rain and thunderstorms in Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts. Other districts like Bellari, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Hassan, Kodagu, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, and Vijayanagara are also expected to receive moderate showers. Mumbai weather Mumbai witnessed more than 60 mm of rainfall in a single day, leading to waterlogged roads, disrupted traffic, and public inconvenience.
