New Delhi: In a move aimed at strengthening wildlife conservation in the capital, the Delhi government has sanctioned the creation of nine Wildlife Inspector posts in the Forests and Wildlife Department. The newly created positions, classified under Level-6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission pay matrix with a salary range of Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400, have been officially notified. The decision addresses a long-pending shortage of dedicated enforcement staff within the department. Previously, only one Wildlife Inspector post existed at the headquarters, while none were deployed across the four field divisions. This gap had been impacting enforcement measures, biodiversity conservation, and the management of human-wildlife conflicts at the ground level. With the revision of recruitment rules approved by the Lieutenant Governor and notified in the gazette, the department is set to enhance its operational framework. Out of the nine posts, eight will be filled through direct recruitment by the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB).
