New Delhi/Khammam: Member of Parliament from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), Vaddiraju Ravichandra, on Thursday urged the Centre to merge five villages adjoining Bhadrachalam back into Telangana, raising the issue during a discussion in the Rajya Sabha on the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Amendment Bill, 2026. Participating in the debate, Ravichandra, who is the Deputy Leader of the BRS Parliamentary Party in the Rajya Sabha, said that while his party welcomed the declaration of Amaravati as the capital of Andhra Pradesh, it was equally important to address long-pending concerns arising from the bifurcation of the erstwhile united state. He recalled that during the reorganisation of states, seven mandals from Telangana were transferred to Andhra Pradesh through an ordinance. He noted that several villages, including Etapaka, Kannayigudem, Picchukalapadu, Purushottapatnam and Gundala, are located in close proximity to Bhadrachalam. Ravichandra pointed out that a significant portion of the temple's land falls within these villages and urged the Union government to take steps to reintegrate them with Telangana. Highlighting development initiatives in the state, he said the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, undertaken during the tenure of former chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, was completed in a record time of three years. He added that the project significantly boosted agricultural output, increasing paddy production from around 60 lakh metric tonnes to nearly three crore metric tonnes. The MP also objected to remarks made by Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy against KCR, and demanded that they be expunged from the records. Ravichandra further called upon the Centre to fulfil assurances made during the state bifurcation. These include granting national project status to the Palamuru-Rangareddy lift irrigation scheme, setting up a coach factory at Kazipet, allocating more funds to a tribal university, and establishing a steel plant at Bayyaram. He also sought the establishment of Navodaya schools in every district, sanctioning of additional Kendriya Vidyalayas, and expedited completion of airports at Mamunur and Adilabad. Additionally, he demanded the construction of a new airport in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. Among other demands, the BRS leader called for upgrading the Kothagudem railway station into a divisional headquarters, noting that it is nearing 100 years since its establishment in 1932.
