Hyderabad: CPI National Control Commission Chairman Narayana stated that the approval of Amaravati as the capital in the Lok Sabha reflects the genuine aspirations of the people. In a statement issued on Thursday, he noted that since the separation of Madras in 1952, the Communist Party has consistently advocated for Vijayawada to be the capital. In fact, the CPI was the first to demand that the Vijayawada region be made the administrative heart of Andhra Pradesh. He remarked that the stance of the YSRCP appears contradictory, suggesting that to cover up one mistake, the party committed many more. The attempt to divide the capital into three parts and weaken Amaravati resulted in significant political setbacks, reducing them to just 11 seats and pushing them into the opposition. Even during the introduction of the Amaravati Capital Bill, YSRCP members boycotted Parliament and were absent when the bill passed in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly. If the party fails to realise its mistake, it may face further losses. Narayana expressed difficulty in understanding why a young leader like Jagan Mohan Reddy is taking such a stand. Furthermore, he noted that the TDP had promised to secure Special Category Status and funds for backward regions. He argued it would have been better if, along with the Capital Bill, they had strongly urged the Centre to fulfil all provisions of the Reorganisation Act. Narayana pointed out that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has also erred in this regard. The ruling and opposition parties are doing an injustice to the people by engaging in mutual accusations. This is not appropriate, and the state government must now respond by strongly demanding Special Category Status for the state of Andhra Pradesh to ensure comprehensive regional development and financial stability.
