Shimla, Apr 2 (UNI) In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, Shimla district police have seized one of the largest consignments of chitta (heroin) reported this year, intensifying the ongoing anti-narcotics drive in the hill town. Police Chief of Shimla Saurav Singh said that the seizure was made on Thursday morning in connection with Case No. 54/26 dated March 24, 2026, registered under Section 21 under NDPS Act under the police station Boileauganj. The operation was carried out by the Special Cell team during routine patrolling at the ISBT Shimla l area. Acting on specific intelligence received from an informant, the police learned that a man was moving suspiciously on the first floor of the bus terminal with a large quantity of heroin, allegedly intending to sell it to local youth. Responding swiftly, the police team identified and detained the suspect matching the description. During questioning, he was identified as Shamshad Ahmed (42), a resident of Ambala district in Haryana. A search of his carry bag, conducted in the presence of independent witnesses, led to the recovery of 288 grams of heroin -- considered a commercial quantity under the NDPS Act. Following the recovery, a formal case was registered and the accused was produced before a competent court which granted six days of police remand to facilitate further investigation. Officials stated that efforts are underway to trace the supply chain and identify other individuals involved in the narcotics network.
