Hyderabad: Hyderabad police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar on Thursday warned of strict action against food adulterators, who put the health of the people in Hyderabad at risk. "Adulteration is not just a business but an attack on society," Sajjanar said during an emergency meeting with business operators organised by 'Hyderabad Food Adulteration Surveillance Team' at the old police commissionerate office in Basheerbagh on Thursday. About 200 representatives from businesses dealing in meat, milk, bakery products, ginger garlic paste, tea powder and other departments have attended themeeting. Sajjanar, the chief guest of the programme, disclosed that "92 cases have been registered across the city within the last month, about 62 tonnes of adulterated food items have been seized, and 98 people have been arrested for illegal activities." The commissioner urged the traders to act as responsible citizens without compromising on the quality of food items. He reminded them that the state government is sincere towards an adulteration-free Telangana. "It is the responsibility of every businessman to protect the reputation of Hyderabad," the commissioner said, adding that every food business operator must have a license from FSSAI, and if there is any information about adulteration anywhere, they must immediately inform the police. The commissioner also assured the business representatives that those who conduct honest business will get full support from the police department and the government. The police commissioner said everyone is expected to participate in building a healthy Hyderabad.
