Madhya Pradesh: Mob attacks groom's family over no alcohol money post wedding rituals, investigations on

New Delhi: A wedding celebration in a village located in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior, turned violent after villagers demanded money to buy alcohol from the groom's family. The mob of villagers, composed mostly of unruly men, attacked the family of the groom, the bride's mother and even the bride. Attackers looted cash According to a report in India Today, the incident happened on March 30, when the groom identified as Mahesh Jatav got married and brought his new bride home. When the bride, along with other family members of the groom and other relatives sat down for food, some villagers arrived at the house. The villagers reportedly demanded cash from the groom and his family to buy alcohol. Upon being refused, the mob reportedly attacked the bride and other family members present at the house. This included the bride's mother. The mob also ransacked the house and looted several items from the house of the groom. The bride's mother was also injured in the attack, along with some other members of the groom's family. The bride's mother in her complaint to the police said, that the mob attacked the family as soon as they sat for their meal. She claimed that they initially began abusing the family members and later turned violent. Following the attack tension ran high in the village. Guests at the house tried to mediate between both sides. The injured were moved to a nearby hospital for treatment. Both sides have filed complaints with the police. Based on the complaints, the police have promised to take appropriate action, once investigations are complete. Meanwhile the local community hopes that the legal process is complete soon and the money and items looted by the mob are safely returned to them.
