New Delhi: Amid the West Asia conflict, the Government of India exempted customs duty on key petrochemical products till June 30, 2026, Finance Ministry said on Thursday. Import duty was cut to benefit including plastics, packaging, textiles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, automotive components and other manufacturing segments and also provide relief to the end users, i.e, the consumers, the ministry said. The government took the decision to remove customs duty on critical petrochemical products as global supply chains have been disrupted due to the ongoing US-Israel and Iran war. The finance ministry stated that the step was taken as a "temporary and targeted relief in order to ensure continued availability of critical petrochemical inputs for domestic industry, reduce cost pressures on downstream sectors, and safeguard supply stability in the country". The exemption is expected to benefit a wide range of sectors dependent on petrochemical feedstock and intermediates.
