Aizawl: Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Wednesday completed his self-enumeration under Phase I of the Census 2027, marking an early adoption of the country's first fully digital census process, officials said. The Chief Minister carried out the houselisting and housing census at his official residence in Aizawl using the newly launched online census portal. The process was facilitated by officials from the Aizawl Municipal Corporation, the General Administration Department, and the Directorate of Census Operations. Following his lead, other senior leaders, including Home Minister K. Sapdanga and PWD Minister Vanlalhlana, also completed their self-enumeration during the day. Senior officials from the state government and the Census Department supervised the exercise to ensure the smooth rollout of the digital interface. The Census of India 2027 represents a significant shift in data collection, being the first to be conducted entirely through digital means. The exercise will be carried out in two phases. The first phase -- Houselisting and Housing Census, commenced on April 1, while the second phase, Population Enumeration, is scheduled for February next year. In a first, citizens have been given the option to self-enumerate. In Mizoram, the self-enumeration window will remain open from April 1 to April 15. This will be followed by the broader houselisting and housing census conducted by officials from April 16 to May 15. Residents can complete the process by visiting the official census portal, registering with their mobile number, selecting their location, and submitting household details. Upon completion, a unique Self-Enumeration ID (SE ID) is generated, which must be shared with enumerators during their visit to ensure proper inclusion in the census database. The Mizoram government has urged residents to actively participate in the digital initiative, highlighting its importance in ensuring accurate data collection and enabling the efficient conduct of the nationwide census exercise.
