Kanpur: A major fire erupted at a scrap shop adjacent to the fish market in the Parade area on Monday morning. The blaze expanded to two scrap warehouses and subsequently reached the fish market. Multiple fire engines successfully controlled the fire. The incident, which had begun due to a short circuit in the scrap shop, prompted swift action from firefighters who managed to protect two municipal corporation vehicles, valued at approximately 40 lakh rupees. Chief fire officer Deepak Sharma said that the scrap shop in the fish market belongs to Nabi Alam. The fire started at 11 am on Monday in the scrap materials outside the shop. "Upon receiving the information, the firefighters arrived with one vehicle each from Colonelganj, Meerpur and Latouche Road and managed to control the fire after 40 minutes of efforts. During this time, the fire also reached two forklifts that Nabi Alam had purchased at an auction from the municipal corporation." Two fire engines from Latouche Road fire station arrived at the location immediately and brought the situation under control within an hour. The outbreak caused considerable alarm among fish traders, who rushed to secure their merchandise. The fire service personnel prioritised preventing the flames from reaching the fish market, successfully averting what could have been a more serious incident.
