Srinagar, April 01: National Health Mission employees in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday skipped duties and joined protests to press for their long-pending demands, including regularization and salary enhancement. Over 12,000 employees working in J&K hospitals joined the protests across all districts, seeking a salary hike, regularization, and job security. The 48-hour stir, starting Wednesday, has been announced by the J&K National Health Mission Employees Association (JKNHMEA) across all districts of the UT. In Srinagar, the employees were scheduled to hold a protest at Sher-i-Kashmir Park, which was not allowed. However, they later gathered at Press Enclave and raised slogans, demanding resolution of their long-pending issues. Speaking to reporters, the association's Chief Spokesperson, Abdul Rauoof, said that despite repeated assurances and representations, the issues confronting NHM employees remain unresolved, compelling them to adopt a democratic course of protest to seek redress. He said the core demands include immediate pay revision in line with other states and evolving economic realities, formation of a job policy, and social security measures. "From routine services to emergency response, NHM employees are delivering their best, but their services have never been recognised. It is we who implement every health programme in J&K, from villages and towns to cities," he said. Rauoof stated that the failure of the government to come up with a job policy and fair remuneration has created a deep sense of insecurity among NHM employees. "We have been protesting over the past ten years, but nothing has happened. We were only given assurances. We urge the elected government to frame a policy for us," he added. Meanwhile, the RNTCP Employees Association has also extended full support to the stir, stating that their issues are interconnected and that the demand for justice, equality, and security resonates across all verticals of NHM.
