BENGALURU: In a push to make India's first digital Census more accessible and participatory, Karnataka Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh on Wednesday completed her self-enumeration for the upcoming Census 2027 using her mobile phone, setting an encouraging example for citizens across the state. The self-enumeration facility, introduced as part of the National Census 2027 exercise, allows individuals to submit their household details online through the official portal https://se.census.gov.in It marks a modernisation of the census process, enabling faster and more convenient data collection ahead of enumerator visits. Shalini urged all those living in Karnataka to register their information between April 1 and April 15, on the portal. She explained that the process is user-friendly and takes just a few minutes using a mobile number and OTP verification, and is designed to be simple, user-friendly and secure. Taking to social media, the chief secretary explained that after completion, users receive a unique Self-Enumeration ID -- SE ID -- which they can share with Census enumerators during house-to-house visits from April 16 to May 15. This helps streamline verification and allows for any necessary corrections. She said that those without personal devices can use nearby computer centres or even a neighbour's or friend's mobile device to complete the process and obtain Self Enumeration IDs. The chief secretary described the Census, the eighth since Independence, as a nation-building exercise, and explained that accurate data will aid policymaking in key areas such as health, education, housing and infrastructure, ensuring better resource allocation and development.
