COIMBATORE: A sudden increase in the price of 5 kg LPG cylinders has left many bachelors and migrant workers across Coimbatore district struggling to manage their daily expenses. Gas agencies and dealers have raised the price of the small cylinder by Rs 51, with effect from April 1. The 5 kg cylinders, widely preferred for their affordability and ease of access, are commonly used by individuals who do not possess the documentation required for regular domestic LPG connections. For many living in rented accommodations or temporary housing, these cylinders serve as a crucial and convenient cooking solution. However, the latest price hike has come as a blow to already stretched budgets. The 5 kg small LPG cylinders, which are being sold around Rs 420 to Rs 450 per cylinder refill, have now been increased to Rs 470 to Rs 500 for a refill. "I rely entirely on the 5 kg cylinder since I don't have the documents needed for a regular connection," said D Manoj Kumar, a migrant worker.
