Vijayawada: The Krishna District Milk Producers Mutually Aided Cooperative Union Limited, popularly known as Vijaya Dairy, has announced an increase in the prices of its milk and milk products with effect from April 4. The Union has raised packet milk prices by Rs 2 per litre and Re 1 per half-litre, citing rising production and operational costs. The decision was disclosed by Managing Director Kolli Eswara Babu on Wednesday. He said that monthly cardholders would continue to get milk at the existing prices till April 9, after which the revised rates would be followed. The price revision follows a recent increase in procurement prices paid to dairy farmers. Vijaya Dairy has enhanced the procurement rate by Rs 3 per litre. Accordingly, the price of buffalo milk (10 percent fat) has been increased from Rs 82 to Rs 85 per litre, while cow milk procurement price has gone up from Rs 29 to Rs 31 per litre. These revised procurement rates came into force from April 1. As per the revised retail prices, a 500 ml packet of Gold Milk will now cost Rs 39 as against Rs 38 earlier. Full Cream Milk price has been increased from Rs 37 to Rs 38, Standardised Milk from Rs 32 to Rs 33, Toned Milk from Rs 30 to Rs 31, and Double Toned Milk from Rs 28 to Rs 29. The price of homogenised full cream milk has been raised from Rs 36 to Rs 37, while Tea Mate (500 ml) will now cost Rs 36, up from Rs 35. The revised rates are also applicable to curd and bulk milk packs ranging from 3 litres to 10 litres. Bulk consumers, including hotels and institutions, will have to bear the increased cost, particularly for 10-litre packs.
