New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday passed the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Bill, 2026, by a voice vote after the Opposition staged a walkout. The bill was introduced in the Upper House on March 25 by MoS (home) Nityanand Rai. The bill deals with cadre management in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). It provides that 50% of the total posts at the inspector general rank, a minimum of 76% of posts at the additional director general rank and all posts of special director general and director general in CAPF will be filled by IPS officers on deputation. Opposition leaders, during the discussion, argued that the bill is unfair to CAPF officers and restricts their promotion opportunities.
