Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today inaugurated Visa Application Centre at the Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bus Terminal (BSABT) in Bhubaneswar. Speaking on the occasion of the inauguration, the Chief Minister said, "The people of the state had been demanding this Visa Application Centre for a long time, and we had sought the cooperation of the Central Government in this regard. This Visa Application Centre became operational in Bhubaneswar today with the support of the Central Government. This will prove to be a milestone in providing international visa services to the people of Odisha." He said that this will further strengthen the global connectivity of Odisha. He further said that the establishment of this centre will increase Odisha's connectivity with the whole world. This is a reflection of the state government's commitment to providing citizen-centric services to the people. He said that such a step will facilitate foreign travel of the youth of Odisha, promote tourism and strengthen international relations. He added that due to the growth of industrialization and economic activities in the state, there was a need for a Visa Application Centre in Odisha. This is of great importance for the local young professionals. Earlier they had to go to Kolkata and Hyderabad to apply for visas. Now they can get visas easily and conveniently. Majhi said that the state government has provided about 3,000 square feet of land inside the Bus Terminal for this visa centre. In the first phase, the Visa Application Centre at BSABT will provide visa services for a total of 10 countries including United Kingdom, Ireland, Austria, Estonia, Italy, Malta, Switzerland, Japan, Morocco and Egypt. More countries will be added to this service in the coming days, the CM informed. It is worth noting that VFS Global provides visa services for 53 countries through more than 560 centres in 20 cities in India. It also provides visa services to 70 governments in 167 countries. Currently, it has over 4,000 centres across the globe.
