Bengaluru, Apr 1 (PTI) The stage is set for the 'Bengaluru Karaga,' one of the city's oldest and iconic festivals, with a grand procession on Wednesday night. As part of rituals, several camphor blocks were lit by devotees near the historic Sri Dharmaraya Swamy temple at Thigalarpet. The festivities, which commenced at the Dharmaraya Swamy Temple on March 24, will culminate in the grand Karaga Shaktyotsava procession on Wednesday night. During the procession, a priest dressed in female attire traverses through the city's streets visiting local temples, while expertly balancing a flower-decked pyramid (Karaga) on his head, representing Goddess Draupadi. The festival celebrated by the Tigala community to honour Goddess Draupadi attracts a large number of people. The Bengaluru Central City Corporation said it has taken several measures for the Karaga festival, such as installation of decorative lighting at Dharmaraya Swamy Temple and surrounding roads, and junctions, filling potholes on the procession route, cleanliness drive, beautification work, deployment of health teams, among others. Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 11 (PTI) Two men drowned in a temple pond in Uloor while taking a bath on Wednesday, police said. The deceased persons, identified as auto drivers hailing from nearby places, were found drowning in the pond by local people. Itanagar, Jun 7 (PTI) The flood situation in Arunachal Pradesh improved on Saturday with water levels of most rivers receding, even as 33,000 people in 24 districts remained affected, officials said.
