Kochi: Malayalam filmmaker Ranjith was arrested by Kerala police following a sexual assault complaint filed by a young actress in Kochi, triggering fresh controversy within the film industry. According to police officials, the complaint was lodged a few days prior at a women's police station, where the actress alleged that the incident occurred during a film shoot in Kochi. Based on her statement, an FIR was registered and an investigation was initiated. Ranjith was detained by police in Thodupuzha while travelling and was later formally arrested by a team from Kochi City Police. Authorities said he would be brought to Kochi and produced before a magistrate for further legal proceedings. The actress has accused the director of attempting to sexually assault her, reportedly inside a caravan at the shooting location.
