New Delhi: A Delhi court has imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on a litigant after observing that a poorly drafted complaint, suspected to have been generated using artificial intelligence (AI), resulted in a waste of valuable judicial time. The petitioner, Punam Pandey, had approached the Rouse Avenue Court seeking directions for the registration of an FIR under Section 156(3) of the CrPC. She alleged that Syed Shahnawaz Hussain had issued death threats to her and her family. Delhi Court flags 'AI-drafted' plea During the proceedings, the court raised serious concerns over the quality of the plea. Magistrate Neha Mittal noted that the application contained numerous grammatical errors and several incoherent phrases, making it difficult to understand the allegations being made. Highlighting the issue, the court observed that such filings unnecessarily burden the judicial system. "Despite nipping such complaints in the bud, litigants filing these frivolous complaints are definitely successful in wasting judicial time, if not more," the court said. To underline the lack of clarity, the court reproduced excerpts from the complaint that it found unintelligible. Observing that courts cannot remain powerless against such misuse, the magistrate imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the petitioner, citing the loss of judicial time and resources.
