Hyderabad: Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao on Tuesday criticised the Government of Andhra Pradesh over its handling of water resources at the Srisailam Reservoir, accusing it of violating established norms. Addressing the media at Gandhi Bhavan, the minister reacted sharply to allegations that information had not been shared with the other side, retorting, "Are you illiterate?" He questioned the need for further clarification when official Government Orders (GOs) on the issue were already in place. Jupally stated that Telangana had already halted power generation at Srisailam in compliance with regulations and insisted that Andhra Pradesh must follow suit. He alleged that AP continued to utilise water for power generation despite norms mandating a halt when reservoir levels fall below prescribed limits. Highlighting Telangana's stake, he said the state holds a 64 per cent share in the reservoir and warned that it would not remain passive if the rights of farmers in Khammam, Nalgonda, and Palamuru districts were affected. He added that farmers, along with the government and the ruling party, would launch a collective agitation if necessary to safeguard their interests. The minister also criticised the previous administration, alleging that it had ignored the exploitation of Srisailam waters, allowing Andhra Pradesh to take undue advantage.
