Virudhunagar (Tamil Nadu), Feb 5 (UNI) In a tragic incident, a woman worker was killed and six others injured, when a power explosion ripped through a private fireworks factory at Chinna Vadiyur village in this Southern district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday afternoon. Police said the fire broke out due to suspected friction, when the workers were engaged in mixing highly inflammable chemicals used for making fancy variety crackers including an aerial display at Sathyaprabhu Fireworks Factory. The fire that triggered huge explosions had completely razed down six working sheds inside the factory. On noticing the fire, over forty workers managed to escape from the unit. Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze after a few hours of battle. The body of K.Ramalakshmi (51) was recovered from the debris from one of the working sheds. The injured, including four women, were admitted to the Virudhunagar Government Medical College Hospital for treatment, where the condition of two workers was stated to be critical. Senior revenue and police officials rushed to the factory and held an inquiry to ascertain whether the factory management flouted safety norms. UNI GSM GNK
Chennai: A powerful explosion caused due to friction in using chemicals killed eight persons and left several others with burn injuries at a private fireworks unit near Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district in south Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.
