Mysuru: The KSRTC Mysuru urban division launched a low-floor BS VI bus service in the city. These buses offer a smooth travel experience to commuters. Meanwhile, the KSRTC is also planning to launch 100 e-buses to the key tourist and business corridors of the city within a year. According to the KSRTC authorities, 80 new BS VI buses joined the corporation fleet recently. With this, the total number of buses available for service in the city reached 554. "These buses are operated on all major routes in the city. They provide a smooth travel experience to passengers," explained KSRTC officials. With the KSRTC experiencing a substantial increase in passenger numbers due to the Shakti scheme, these new buses are used to clear the rush, especially during peak hours. "A few months ago, around 100 buses that ran over 10 lakh kilometres were withdrawn from service. The BS VI buses replaced them," informed KSRTC authorities. Meanwhile, the urban division will get the 12-metre-long e-buses in the next few months. Among these buses, 25 will be used to ferry passengers to the Chamundeshwari Temple atop the Chamundi Hills. The KSRTC is planning to serve important routes like Infosys, KRS, Srirangapatna, and JP Nagar through these buses to ensure a good occupancy rate. It can be recalled that residents are demanding only e-vehicles atop the Chamundi Hills to keep this eco-sensitive area pollution-free. There is a growing demand to ban private vehicles towards the Betta and ferry devotees through state-run buses. HT Veeresh, divisional controller of KSRTC Mysuru Urban division, stated that the new electric buses are expected to be delivered in the next 8-9 months. "We are now planning to develop the charging infrastructure for these buses," he said.
