Kohima, March 31 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department has cautioned the public against a weather advisory graphic circulating on social media, which allegedly uses NSDMA data but features an inaccurately generated district map, leading to misinformation. The advisory graphic, titled 'Nagaland Weather Advisory: March 25-29', has been widely shared across platforms. While the weather-related information contained in the circulated post appears to be derived from official NSDMA sources, the district mapping and visual representation were generated inaccurately, resulting in a misleading depiction of affected areas. "The map shown in the circulated graphic are inaccurate and does not reflect the official assessment or communication issued by NSDMA, Home Department," the authority stated. The NSDMA further warned that the circulation of altered or unofficial weather-related information, including incorrectly generated maps or graphics in the name of the authority, constitutes misinformation and may lead to confusion regarding risk areas and public safety preparedness. Citizens have been advised to exercise due caution and refrain from creating, sharing, or forwarding any such unverified materials. The public has been urged to rely only on official advisories and updates issued through the verified communication channels of the NSDMA and the Government of Nagaland. For accurate, real-time alerts and verified weather updates, the NSDMA has encouraged citizens to download and use the 'Safer Nagaland App.' This is issued for public information and strict compliance, the NSDMA added.
