Mumbai: Water supply to some areas under BMC wards such as S (Bhandup, Powai), L (Kurla), K-East (Andheri East, West), H-East (Kalina, Vakola), and G-North (Dadar, Dharavi) was cut for a period of 30 hours starting from 11 am on Feb 5 to 5 pm on Feb 6 for the commissioning of a new 2400 mm diameter water pipe. The work of laying a new 2400 mm diameter aqueduct was completed between Powai Anchor Block and Maroshi Tunnel Shaft. Two water pipelines of 1800 mm diameter at Tansa East and Tansa West will be discarded, and a new 2400 mm diameter pipeline, which will replace the two pipelines, will be commissioned. The operation to commission the pipelines started at 11 AM on February 5. The BMC has appealed to citizens of these areas to store water as required ahead of the supply shutdown and use water sparingly during the period. There is a possibility of muddy water being supplied for the next few days after the pipeline commissioning work. As a precautionary measure, citizens have been advised to filter and boil the water before drinking it.
