Nalanda: At least eight devotees were killed and several others injured in a stampede at Sheetla Mata Mandir in Maghra village of Bihar's Nalanda district on Tuesday evening. The incident took place during evening prayers on the last Tuesday of the Chaitra month, when a large number of devotees had gathered at the temple for a special pooja. Crowd Rush Leads to Fatal Crush According to officials, overcrowding inside the temple premises led to the situation spiralling out of control. As devotees attempted to move through narrow passages, a sudden surge in the crowd triggered panic. Several people fell during the rush, leading to a pile-up in and around the temple premises. The crush resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries. Rescue and Relief Operations Police and local authorities reached the spot soon after receiving information. With the help of local residents, rescue teams evacuated the injured and shifted them to a hospital in Bihar Sharif. Officials said more than half a dozen injured persons were admitted for treatment. Efforts were made to clear the premises and ensure that no one remained trapped. Visuals from the site showed heavy crowding as security personnel tried to manage the situation and disperse onlookers. Situation Brought Under Control Authorities cordoned off the area and conducted checks across the temple complex. Crowd movement was regulated to prevent further incidents.
