Shimla: Chief secretary Sanjay Gupta on Monday rejected allegations made by the CPI(M) regarding the violation of laws while providing 275 bighas of land for the construction of Chester Hills housing project in Solan. Describing the charges as "false and baseless", he said that he had no role in any irregularities linked to the project, asserting that the land under question was purchased before he assumed office. He maintained that the transaction was conducted with due approval from competent authorities and strictly followed existing rules, including provisions under Section 118 of the Himachal Pradesh Tenancy and Land Reforms Act.The clarification came after the CPI(M), through a press conference earlier in the day, demanded a high-level probe into alleged violations of Section 118, which restricts the transfer of agricultural land to non-agriculturists, in the Solan-based project.
