New Delhi: India is likely to offer 21 blocks for prospecting of oil and natural gas in the next bidding round under Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP), Directorate General of Hydrocarbons (DGH) said. The area to be offered for bidding is about 80,235 square kilometers. DGH mentioned a list of the 21 blocks that will be offered in the 11th round of OALP (OALP-XI). The GDH has invited companies to bid for the exploration, development, and monetization of 21 Oil and Gas blocks likely to contain both conventional and/or unconventional hydrocarbon resources, distributed in the sedimentary basins of India. A total of 12 Onland Blocks, 04 Shallow Water Blocks, 01 Deep water Block and 04 Ultra Deep water Blocks are on offer. "Bid submission start and closing dates (will) be announced soon," DGH said. Bid Schedule Bid Submission Start Date 30.03.2026 (14:00 Hrs IST) Bid Submission Closing Date 29.05.2026 (12:00 Hrs IST) Category-I sedimentary basins on offer in OALP-XI In its release, the DGH stated that bidders offering the highest revenue share, plus quoting the most work programme, would be awarded the 14 blocks. Category-II & III blocks: Bidders who would present the highest work programme of doing seismic and drilling well will get the blocks, will receive the contract. Category-I sedimentary basin is one with proven commercial production of oil and gas. Category-II are ones with confirmed hydrocarbon accumulation but not yet been developed for commercial production. Category-III are ones with considered geologically prospective but no commercial discoveries have been made to date. OALP-X OALP-X round was launched in February 2025, however, it was not able to be closed today and the deadline was extended till February 18, 2026 and now it is due on May 29.
