Kolkata, Mar 30 (PTI) Alleging attempts to interfere with the democratic rights of voters in West Bengal, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Monday voiced concerns over the alleged large-scale submission of Form 6 applications from other states and sought an explanation from the Election Commission. "What we are witnessing is deeply concerning. There are growing indications of a coordinated attempt to interfere with the democratic rights of the people of Bengal, with the BJP at the centre of it and the EC seemingly looking the other way," Banerjee said in a post on X. Banerjee, who met CEO Manoj Agarwal in the evening to discuss the issue, said people "deserve to know what is happening to their votes" and described the issue as one that "goes to the very heart of free and fair elections." Banerjee claimed that the party has been receiving "credible reports from several districts" about a surge in Form 6 applications, which are used for inclusion of new voters in the electoral rolls. "These are not routine additions. There are serious concerns that many of these entries may be linked to individuals who have no real connection to Bengal, people who don't live here, don't work here and have no stake in the state," he alleged. Referring to a purported video clip, Banerjee said it "only adds to these concerns." PTI could not verify the authenticity of the clip, which apparently shows the submission of some papers to EC officials in districts. "It appears to show thousands of such forms being processed and stacked, raising valid questions about the scale and intent behind this exercise," he said. Drawing parallels with other states, he added, "We have seen similar concerns being raised in other states during elections. Bengal cannot be allowed to go down that path."
