Hyderabad, Jan 27 (UNI) The Telangana State Election Commission on Tuesday issued a notification for the conduct of the second ordinary elections to seven municipal corporations and 116 municipalities across the state. Polling will be held on February 11, while the counting of votes is scheduled for February 13. Addressing a press conference, State Election Commissioner Rani Kumudini announced that the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into force with immediate effect. She said candidates can file nominations from January 28, with the last date for filing nominations being January 30. After scrutiny, the list of valid nominations will be published on January 31. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 3, and the final list of contesting candidates will be released on the same day, she informed. According to the Commission, 52.43 lakh voters, including 26.80 lakh women voters, are expected to participate in the elections. Polling will be held in 2,996 wards through 8,203 polling stations. A total of 16,031 ballot boxes are being arranged, along with 137 strong rooms and 136 counting centres. The elections will be conducted on a political party basis using ballot boxes and ballot papers. The election of municipal chairpersons and vice-chairpersons, as well as mayors and deputy mayors of municipal corporations, will be held on February 16. The State Election Commissioner appealed to voters and candidates to strictly adhere to the Model Code of Conduct and ensure free and fair elections.
