Hyderabad, Dec 17 (UNI) President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Hyderabad on Wednesday for her annual winter sojourn at the Rashtrapati Nilayam, staying until around December 22. Upon her arrival at the Hakimpet airport near here, she was welcomed by Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti, Minister-in-Waiting for the President's visit Seethakka, Minister Sridhar Babu, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, and DGP Shivadhar Reddy at Hakimpet Airport , here this afternoon. She arrived here after offering prayers at the Golden Temple, Vellore,Tamil Nadu. Police have made elaborate security arrangements in view of her visit in the city. In view of President Draupadi Murmu's visit to the city, certain traffic restrictions were imposed at various locations. During her visit, she will stay at the Rashtrapati Nilayam in Bolarum, Secunderabad, one of the Presidents of India's official retreats. Durign her stay in Hyderabad, on December 19, the President will inaugurate the National Conference for the Chairpersons of Public Service Commissions, being organised by the Telangana Public Service Commission at Hyderabad. On December 20, the President will address a conference on 'Timeless Wisdom of Bharat: Pathways of Peace and Progress', being organised by Brahma Kumaris Shanti Sarovar to mark its 21st Anniversary at Hyderabad. The President stays in the main building in Rashtrapati Nilayam ( the President's House) and conducts official business from here during their winter sojourn in December every year. Originally called the Residency House, it was constructed in 1860 by Nizam Nazir-ud-Dowla. It became the country house of the British Resident at Secunderabad. After the Hyderabad state's integration into Indian union (Read Operation Polo) in 1948, it became the president's retreat and used as the Southern Sojourn.
