Ahmedabad: To keep AMC buildings free of stray dogs, the cattle nuisance control department of the civic body is appointing nodal officers. So far, 25 such officers have been appointed. The appointments are part of the Supreme Court's ruling on management of strays. They will be responsible for keeping AMC premises stray-free. Every public building must display boards at its gate, clearly displaying the details of the nodal officer. Furthermore, the AMC will form an inspection team and task force to monitor stray dogs in every govt or private public building. This team will monitor every building monthly."Inspection teams must confirm that public buildings have not become permanent shelters for stray dogs," the official said. "The task force will ensure that feeding does not occur in such premises, streets, and public places," an official speaking on the condition of anonymity, stated. "The AMC will identify buildings such as govt and private educational institutions, hospitals, primary health centres, medical colleges, bus terminals, and railway stations." He said, "Illegal waste disposal and feeding zones will be shut down in all public buildings. Meetings will be held with the administrative heads of the city's govt and private-public buildings." The official said, "Under the supervision of the district magistrate, all such premises will be secured with adequate fencing, boundary walls, and gates to prevent the entry of stray dogs." New dog shelters will be constructed, he said, and points giving entry to dogs into buildings will be sealed. AMC will ensure that all govt and private hospitals must maintain an adequate stock of Anti-Rabies Vaccine (ARV) and immunoglobulin. A special drive will be conducted to administer ARV to dogs. Work will be carried out to remove stray dogs and transfer them to shelters. Pups older that six months will be sterilized and vaccinated. annually for five years.
