Thane civic body takes swift action,1404 unauthorised banners and posters removed

Thane, Dec 16 (UNI) The Thane Municipal Corporation has launched a strict enforcement drive against unauthorised political advertisements following the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct for the upcoming local body elections, removing 1,404 illegal banners and posters across the city within 24 hours, officials said. The action was carried out by the Anti-Encroachment Department between 4 pm on December 15, and December 16, after the election code came into force for the Thane Municipal Corporation general elections. Polling is scheduled to be held on January 15, 2026. The drive was conducted on the instructions of Election Department Deputy Commissioner Umesh Birari and under the guidance of Assistant Commissioner Supan Bhai. Officers and assistant commissioners appointed across the nine prabhag committees within the civic body limits coordinated the operation. During the campaign, officials removed unauthorised banners, posters, hoardings and wall advertisements erected in violation of the election code. In addition, the civic body also took action to cover development work books and displays bearing the names of public representatives, in strict compliance with the code of conduct. According to official data, 204 illegal posters and banners were removed in the Nopada-Kopri prabhag committee, 257 each in Vagle Estate and Lokmanya Savarkar Nagar, 275 in Vartak Nagar, 107 in Majhiwara-Manpada, 169 in Uthalsar, 21 in Kalwa, 15 in Mumbra, and 99 in the Deva prabhag committee. Civic officials said similar enforcement actions would continue in the coming days to ensure strict adherence to the Model Code of Conduct during the election period.
