Mysore/Mysuru: As many as 14,077 cases pending in Mysuru City and Taluk courts were amicably settled through mediation at the National Lok Adalat, the fourth and last one of the current year, held on Dec.13 at City and Taluk Courts across the district. Out of the 49,645 Civil and Criminal compoundable cases, 26,694 were taken up for amicable settlement at the Lok Adalat, held on Dec. 13 as per the directions of National Legal Services Authority and Karnataka State Legal Services Authority. Of the 26,694 cases, 14,077 cases were settled through mediation/conciliation/negotiation. During the Lok Adalat, 116 transport cases that were registered between 1991-92 and 2019-20, were settled with a collection of Rs. 1,41,900 as penalty, taking advantage of the 50 percent concession in penalty announced by the State Government. Also, 42 warring couples who had knocked on the doors of the Court seeking separation, citing domestic disharmony, got reunited after burying their differences at the Lok Adalat. Overall, the Dec. 13 Lok Adalat, saw resolution of 14,077 cases, total valued at Rs. 73,55,63,277 in terms of compensation and other monetary claims and benefits. The Lok Adalat was held under the guidance of Principal District and Sessions Court Judge Usharani and Senior Civil Judge K.K. Amarnath, who is also the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Member-Secretary. Mysore Bar Association President S. Lokesh, Secretary A.G. Sudhir, other office-bearers and members of the Association took part. The three earlier Lok Adalats of the year had taken place on Mar. 8, May 10 and Sept. 13.
