Akola, Dec 15 (UNI) The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has lodged a strong protest against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over an incident in which the hijab of a Muslim woman doctor was allegedly removed during an official function in Patna. NCP state organisational secretary Javed Zakaria condemned the Chief Minister's conduct, describing it as unacceptable and insensitive. The incident reportedly occurred during a government programme at which Nitish Kumar was distributing appointment letters to 1,283 newly selected doctors. Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha were also present on the dais. According to the NCP's version of the incident, when Dr Nusrat Parveen came on stage to receive her appointment letter, the Chief Minister allegedly removed her hijab and remarked, "You are a doctor, then why are you covering your face." A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media, drawing criticism from various quarters. Zakaria said the hijab is closely linked to the religious identity and personal dignity of Muslim women, and publicly disrespecting a woman in such a manner was morally wrong and contrary to constitutional values.
