Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said that he will visit Osmania University on December 10 (Wednesday) to inspect the academic blocks and hostels, and directed officials to give priority to the opinions of students and teaching staff while finalising the major development works planned at the varsity. Reviewing the proposals presented by a high-power committee, headed by Advisor (Public Affairs) K. Keshava Rao, at his residence in Hyderabad on Friday (December 5, 2025), the Chief Minister examined the detailed presentations on the various upcoming construction and modernisation projects on the campus. Committee explains proposals for new buildings In the review, the committee explained the proposals for works, including new hostel buildings, academic blocks, roads, and an auditorium. Mr. Reddy suggested several changes, stressing that all new structures should be planned to prevent future inconvenience to students and staff. He also directed planners to ensure that every hostel and academic block includes accommodation for at least 10% more students than the current capacity demands. Balance modernisation-heritage protection Mr. Reddy emphasised the need to balance modernisation with heritage protection. While instructing officials to preserve historically significant buildings, he said that old structures lacking heritage value should not receive heavy renovation spending. Instead, priority must go to constructing new and functional facilities. He also stressed attention to amenities such as cycle tracks, walking paths, and symbols commemorating the legacy and struggles of OU students. He advised exploring the use of urban forestry funds for works in the forested areas within the university and urged officials to create new water resources while conserving the existing ones on the campus. The development models should be presented to the campus community, and drop boxes, along with a dedicated website, must be set up to collect opinions, he said.
