CHENNAI: CPI State Secretary M Veerapandian has urged the state government to provide relief to temple guards, who were murdered by robbers, in Virudhunagar district. Sankar Pandian (65) and Pechimuthu (50) of Kovilur were working as security guards at the Nachadai Thavirtharuliya Swami Temple in Devathanam, which is under the control of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department. As usual, both were on night duty on November 10, 2025. However, when the temple was opened the next morning it was discovered that both guards had been brutally murdered. The temple's CCTV cameras had been smashed and removed, and valuable temple property had been looted," he said in a statement. He added that the shocking and horrifying incident has created panic and fear among the people in and around the Rajapalayam region. The police department has launched an intensive investigation to trace and arrest all those involved in the crime. One suspect has already been shot and arrested. The Communist Party of India demands that all the culprits involved in this temple robbery and double murder be swiftly arrested and given severe punishment under the law, ensuring that none of them escape justice. Pointing out that the families of the two murdered temple guards are living in extreme poverty, he demanded the state government to provide immediate relief compensation to support these bereaved families.
